Filip Hrgovic and Demsey McKean met over 12 rounds and served as the co-feature to Anthony Joshua’s clash with Robert Helenius.

Hrgovic, the IBF mandatory challenger from Croatia, entered the ring with an undefeated record of 15-0, with 12 of those wins coming by way of knockout. His opponent, Demsey McKean, was also undefeated with a record of 22-0 and 14 knockouts.

The fight started off slowly, with both men feeling each other out and not committing too much in the early rounds. Hrgovic began to land more successfully in the second round, including a statement right-left combination that caught the eyes of the judges.

In the third round, McKean started to work the body, but his shots lacked the power of Hrgovic’s. Hrgovic continued to target the head with rights and his corner urged him to keep fighting when McKean held on.

The pace slowed down in the fifth round, allowing McKean to get on the front foot and outland Hrgovic in the first 90 seconds. However, Hrgovic answered back with a big right hand in the final 30 seconds of the round.

The sixth round saw a much slower pace with opportunities missed by both men due to fatigue. The seventh round started with all jabs and was losing its fizz rapidly. McKean had an impressive flurry and held onto a tired Hrgovic as much as he could.

In the eighth round, McKean looked fresher and was able to land more shots. Hrgovic put three or four hooks into the body in the ninth round and followed up with a big right hook. McKean was wobbled but managed to hold on.

In the end, it was Hrgovic who produced a final round knockout against Demsey McKean after a laboured performance.

Overall, it was a great night of boxing at the O2 Arena in London. The undercard featured other exciting fights, including Derek Chisora, Johnny Fisher, and more.
