Cameroon-born Sakio Bika turned professional in Sydney, Australia in December 2000 and reeled off ten straight wins before losing to fellow Australian Sam Soliman on a hotly disputed 10-round majority decision (One judge scoring 114-114.) Another ten wins and one technical decision draw (Head clash) led to a challenge in Germany against local hero Markus Beyer for his WBC World Super-middleweight Title.

Again, the fight was halted due to an accidental head clash in the 4th round that resulted in the champion sustaining a cut right eye. As per the WBC rules, the fight was declared a technical draw and saw the champion hold on to his title.

Five months later and Bika gets a second chance at world title glory when he travels to Manchester, England to challenge Wales's greatest-ever boxer, Joe Calzaghe for his IBF & WBO World Super-middleweight titles.

In a thoroughly gruelling affair, Bika used every roughhouse trick in the book in an attempt to drain the champion of energy but as in his previous 18 title defences, Calzaghe had all the answers, and although it wasn't a vintage Calzaghe performance as in his previous effort against American favourite, Jeff Lacy, he did plenty to come out with a unanimous points decision win.

Scores: Phil Edwards 116-111 | John Lawson 117-110 | Jose Hiram Rivera 117-110
